What It Means To Be Human
Sometimes we forget
What it means to feel
Dead to the world
Like nothing is real
Open yourself up
To the sea of emotion
Feel the pull
Like the tides of the ocean
Sometimes you don’t know
Which way you will go
Who you will meet
How you will grow
Life flies by
Way too fast
Live for today
Don’t regret the past
We all make
Mistakes in life
Learn to forgive
And end this strife
If I knew
I would die tomorrow
I wouldn’t feel pain
Or sadness, or sorrow
I would spend today
With the one I love
Hold her in my arms
Under the sky above
We would laugh and talk
Deep into the night
I would hold her close
With all my might
And feel her touch
Burning my skin
Nuzzling up
Her face to my chin
I would peer deeply
Into her eyes
Kiss her gently
Until the darkness dies
As the silence of the dawn
Creeps through the still air
I’d cradle her softly
Run my hands through her hair
Then we would see
The first rays of light
Feel the warmth on our skin
And smile with delight
Grateful for the time
That we had spent together
As I begin to leave this world
And break this mortal tether
I hope that when I’m gone
She won’t be lonely
She needs to know
That she’s my one and only
